Clubs Need Certified Race Director to Promote Events.

CLUB RENEWALS:

Beginning Nov. 1, club contacts can renew their USA Cycling club’s membership through their personal USA Cycling account under the “Tools” tab and “Manage USA Cycling Clubs.” There will be a renew link under the red expiration date. Individual racing licenses will go on sale in December. By renewing your club membership early, you can ensure that your members are able to select your club name when they renew their own licenses.

CLUB OF THE YEAR AWARDS:

The application process for the annual “Club of the Year” awards is now open. New for this year, the application process will occur electronically. Any club contact can submit the application through their personal USA Cycling account by selecting “Tools” and then “Manage USA Cycling Clubs.” Each club may only apply for ONE award and once the application is started, the club contact CANNOT go back and open another application. There will be a “save” button so that you may begin the application and opt to complete it at a later time. An application will not be considered unless the “submit” link has been selected before the deadline of Nov. 30, 2013. USA Cycling will award three “Overall Club of the Year” designations and seven special awards. Winners will be announced on Dec. 16. TO PERMIT EVENTS IN 2014, CLUBS MUST HAVE CERTIFIED RACE DIRECTOR:

Up until 2014, member clubs have been able to permit events with or without a certified race director as a club contact. However, beginning on Jan. 1, clubs wishing to permit events must have a Level C Certified Race Director listed as a club contact. Each club can still receive one comp’d race director license at no additional cost.

TWO-YEAR LICENSE OPTION:

Because race director certification lasts for two years, race directors now have the option to purchase either a one-year OR a two-year race director license.

Officials guidelines changing; Race Directors assume responsibility for results

With the increased use in quality timing and results technology at bike races, gone are the days of assigning officials as back-ups for the timing and results functions. Beginning in 2014, the results submission process will be delegated to the race director and officials will no longer assume responsibility for the results. There are many options for a race director to manage the results process. Regardless of what method is used, significant communication will be required between the local association, the race director, and the chief referee so that everone is clear on how the results will be generated. More information on this topic will be coming soon.
