Blue skies, reasonable temperatures and a strong south wind greeted racers at Maskenthine Lake just outside of Stanton, Nebraska Saturday for near perfect racing conditions. With few appearances in this year's series, Stephen Jarrett (Trek Stores/Midwest Cycling Community) was the unknown at the start line of the Cat 1 event, but race favorite Kevin Limpach (Trek Stores/Midwest Cycling Community) had him marked. Jarrett took the lead in the uphill gravel start only to see Limpach jump around as the racers took to the singletrack. Along with with John Rokke (CycleWorks/Moose's Tooth) and Ryan Feagan (Bike Masters), Limpach & Jarrett created a gap on Norfolk native Jesse Peterson (Monkey Wrench Cycles/Icon Graphics), with the remainder of the field strung out

Temperatures that have dropped into the mid 80's and nary a speck of rain in the forecast make for great MTB racing conditions at Maskenthine Lake just outside Norfolk, Nebraska this Saturday. Veteran race hosts Elkhorn Valley Cycling are hosting the 7th event in the 2010 Nebraska Lottery Psycowpath Series, featuring a tight series of trails in the trees along Maskenthine Lake. Racers participating in the Maskenthine XC Classic will enjoy the trails, camping accommodations, and take a dip in the lake to cool off when the racing is over! Pre-registration online is required for all classes, available at RaceRegister.net. Saturday's races start at 10am & noon.

The 2010 Nebraska Lottery Psycowpath Series offered up a full weekend of events August 7th & 8th, featuring new race formats and fast & dry singletrack conditions, covering 3 events at two different venues. Full results available at Psycowpath.com. Early Saturday morning, riders completed a single lap "race of truth" at the Lewis & Clark Monument time trial. In the Pro/Cat 1 field, Jesse Rients (Nature Valley) of Minnesota took the Time Trial win with a ten second gap over Ryan Feagan (Bike Masters), completing 1 lap in just 18:17.
As temperatures rose, so did the competition as fast, high powered racing continued Saturday afternoon at the Tranquility Tangle Short Track event. Paul Webb (Midwest Cycling Community) set a blistering pace off the line into a wicked headwind, but lost the $20 cash prime as Kevin Limpach (Midwest Cycling Community) came around just before the top of the hill. The damage had been done, and the field of 8 riders was down to four contenders: Limpach, Reints, Jesse Petersen (MonkeyWrench cycles), and Feagan, even before a single lap of the 1 mile circuit was complete. Eventually, Reints & Limpach separated themselves from the bunch. As Limpach slid sideways a bit in the last loose corner, Reints took advantage and sprinted ahead to take the win.
