Raymond, NE — Riders were greeted with a 23 degree temperature, wind and overcast skies for the 9:00am start of the USAC races, Saturday morning at Branched Oak Lake just northwest of Lincoln. Not ideal for the first day of the two day race series promoted by the UNL Cycling Club.

The first day featured a road race and time trial on the 11.2 mile loop around Branched Oak Lake. With concern regarding the extreme weather and safety, the morning races were reduced by 1 lap.

Joe McWilliams (Team Kaos) and John Frey (Lincoln Industries Cycling) broke away from the group on the second lap of the M123 race. With a couple laps to go, Team Kaos’ Lee Bumgarner and Jordan Ross were able to bridge up to McWilliams and Frey. Ross went on to take the win with teammates McWilliams and Bumgarner second and third, respectively. Frey rolled through with a fourth place finish.

In the Men 4 race, Greg Haegle (Team Kaos), Fred Hinsley, and Jakob Wilson (Greenstreet) broke away on the first lap of three and stayed clear the field to the finish with Hagele taking first, followed by Hinsley in second and Wilson third.

Joe Eickhoff powered off from the gun in the Men 5 race to win.
