Nebraska Mountain Bike Racing Series Opens Season April 6 & 7

Mountain bikers from across Nebraska and the will roll into Bellevue April 6 and 7 for the opening weekend of the 2013 Nebraska Lottery Psycowpath Mountain Bike Racing Series. The Bellevue Bike Balihoo, hosted by The Trek Bicycle Stores of Omaha along with their club Midwest Cycling Community, will be a two-day event combining three racing disciplines: an individual time trial (race against the clock), a short track race (dirt circuit) and a cross-country race (endurance). Folks of all ages and abilities are encouraged to participate. All races are open to the public.

The weekend begins at 10:00am with the Jewell Jam time Trial at Jewell Park, Saturday, April 6, located on the north side of the Bellevue Cemetery on S. Main. Riders will go off one at a time for 1 lap of the hilly 3.3 mile circuit. Awards will go to the fastest finishers by age group and ability categories.

Racing continues from 3:00pm-6:00pm Saturday afternoon with a Short Track race at Swanson Park, located at 36th & Cornhusker. Riders will line up in groups to complete multiple laps on a 0.5 mile course circuit around the park, in a style of racing known for its fast, short, intense efforts. Each category of riders will have its own event, lasting a duration of 20-40 minutes. Awards are given to the first riders to complete an established number of laps.

The weekend will wrap up on Sunday with a more traditional cross country racing format.This final competition will be back at Swanson Park. The first races start at 12:00pm, and the premiere event, the Men & Women Pro/Am begins at 2:00pm. Riders will pedal multiple laps through the 4.5 mile dirt single track course, with awards going to the fastest finishers. Race distance ranges from 1 lap of the 4.5 mile course for beginners, up to 5 laps for the Pro/Am Men. The day concludes with an awards ceremony, grill out and kiddy races.
